CAR HIRE
Staying in Esentepe (and indeed at any location
outside the cities/large towns) necessitates hiring a car if you want to get
around the beautiful island which has so much to see.
The majority of shops and restaurants/bars are
between 1km and 3km from the villa – the nearest 1km – and
therefore not within easy walking distance. While taxis, an hourly daytime bus
from Esentepe village to Girne, and restaurant courtesy cars are readily
available, it is highly recommended that guests hire a car, preferably well in
advance of their stay to ensure availability.
Traffic in Cyprus drives on the same side of the
road as the UK, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, India, Japan, and
South-East Asia. Traffic density in the Esentepe district is very light, and
sparse toward the Karpas peninsular. It is heavier in the cities and major
towns but not normally excessive.
Compared with other Medierranean countries, car
hire costs in Northern Cyprus are reasonable. Here are some companies you might

2. Legislation prohibits hire cars being delivered to the South
(RoC) but a few car hire firms in the North (TRNC) do allow their vehicles to
be taken to the South by hirers after they have been delivered to locations in
the North. They will make a charge for the paperwork (Pacific Car Rentals
charge £50) and hirers will also have to purchase separate car insurance
for one month at the border (approx 25-35 Euros).
